I'm wanting to celebrate Advent this year. Advent is the beginning of the church calendar year. It is the anticipation of Christ's birth and dwelling with us. From my understanding, it begins four sundays before Christmas Eve, which would be December 2 this year. The first three Sundays it is common to light a purple candle, saving the last pink candle to be lit on the last sunday before Christmas Eve. There are also verses that can be read to aid in focusing our attention of the season to the wonder and amazing gift of Jesus Christ into our world.
I invite any who happens to read this to take part or at least learn more about Advent and other Seasons in the church year.
I've never really celebrated "Christmas" like this, but hope to start and continue to do so in the years to follow.
Something different and exciting and hopefully it will allow me to focus more on Christ instead of buying and receiving material gifts.

I'm sure there are some Baptist churches in town that celbrate Advent, though I don't know any by name. I believe that the Episcopal churches celebrate Advent as well.
I think you will be interested to see the Jewish roots of Advent. Check out the Psalms.
